Beaba Babycook

Cooking for babies can be very time-consuming but I found the Beaba Babycook to be an invaluable weaning tool. It’s a machine which steam-cooks food and then blends it in as little as five minutes. It cooks anything from fruit and vegetables to chicken and fish.

There are three ‘cook’ settings and the instruction booklet tells you which to use for a particular food. For instance to steam pears you would use setting one (approximately five mins cooking time), to cook broccoli or sweet potatoes, setting two (ten mins cooking) and to cook chicken or fish, setting three (around fifteen mins cooking). It is as simple as adding water to the steamer and turning a switch to start the cooking. When its finished it even turns itself off.

To puree food you simply tip the food from the steam basket into the outer blender and flip the switch the other way. You don’t lose any of the goodness as the food is blended in the water it was steamed in.

You may call me shallow but one of the things I like the most about the Babycook is that it is small and cute and actually looks nice. I’ve got it sitting out on my kitchen worktop so its always within easy reach. In fact when I first got the Babycook I spent an afternoon cooking and blending different foods for my little boy and then freezing them to keep. It has made weaning so easy I wouldn’t be without it.

The only downside is that the Babycook isn’t perhaps the cheapest item in the kitchen, costing around £65 but I would say that I have probably saved the same amount just by cooking my own food and not having to buy jar after jar from the supermarket. I would imagine if you shop around you could save a few pounds on this… It also cuts down on my recycling pile which can’t be a bad thing. Now when I go to the supermarket I just get recipe ideas from the jars and make them up myself at home.

I would recommend this product to any parent who is really keen to make their own food up as it takes all the hassle out of cooking for your little one.
